112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees

September 28, 2026 | 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Even Just One of These Children

Commemorating the Vatican’s 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees

The John J. Brunetti Human Trafficking Academy, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Miami, through Catholic Charities, Catholic Legal Services and the Detention Ministry, as well as Gulf Coast JFCS and St. Thomas University Campus Ministry, joins the Holy See in commemorating the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

Migrants, refugees, and children are generally recognized as vulnerable groups under international human rights law, but these risks are ever more pronounced for refugee minors. According to the UNHCR, children represent 29% of the global population, yet they account for 39% of the world’s forcibly displaced people. This poses significant difficulties in child protection, education, birth registration, family unity, among other things.

While governments all over the globe are revisiting their migration and refugee policies, closing borders, and reducing intake quotas, the Vatican is inviting us to answer the call which the Holy Scriptures command in Matthew 25:35—to welcome the stranger—reminding us that systemic restrictions leave millions of minors exposed to human trafficking, forced labor, and exploitation along perilous migration routes and many times in destination countries as well—thus frustrating human dignity. As Pope Leo XIV recently reminded us human dignity entails personal responsibility and solidarity with others.

Join The John J. Brunetti Human Trafficking Academy to explore, reflect on these issues, and pray for the “unique and indelible dignity” of every human being, and “to commit ourselves to promoting and defending it always.” We look forward to seeing you at Mass at the Chapel of St. Anthony at 12:00 p.m., followed by a luncheon panel at the Goldbloom Convocation Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28th, 2026.
