Maya Weathersby-Huggins is a student in the LL.M. Program in Intercultural Human Rights at St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law, originating from Trinidad and Tobago.

Maya graduated from Columbia College Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts (Double Honors) in Communications: Radio, and a minor in Business. She holds several certificates and diplomas from Penn Foster Career School in Wildlife and Conservation, and Humanitarian Studies. She is also a registered Veterinarian Assistant.

Eager to advocate for justice, and motivated by teamwork and reform, Maya has volunteered and worked for various human rights campaigns in Chicago for homeless youth who were victims of sex trafficking, unemployment, and impoverished backgrounds. These experiences encouraged her passions for human rights, particularly labor rights, human trafficking, and environment conservation.

With ten plus years of a proven track record in marketing, social media, radio production, public speaking, research, data analysis, and customer service in political and non-political campaigns, Maya currently serves as a human rights advocate with several Chicago-based non-profits focused on human trafficking, community coalitions and economic development.

She intends to pursue a J.S.D. Intercultural Human Rights, and an M.S. Educational Leadership at STU. Her goal is to further develop her skills, as an affective communicator to promote human flourishing and global civil rights.
