Makenson Lamour is a passionate advocate for human rights, particularly concerning vulnerable children. His journey towards the LL.M. Program in Intercultural Human Rights at St. Thomas University College of Law has been deeply influenced by a life-changing experience in Haiti. Witnessing children begging and sleeping in the streets opened his eyes to the harsh realities faced by marginalized communities, propelling him towards dedicating his life to creating meaningful changes and promoting justice.

During his time as a STEM grant coordinator at Miami Dade College, one of Makenson’s most commendable attributes was his unwavering commitment to the advancement of minority students. He tirelessly fought for opportunities for underprivileged students, going above and beyond to secure internships and undergraduate research programs to enhance their educational experiences. His advocacy efforts extended to securing additional funding for minority students facing financial hardships due to their immigrant status, joblessness and homelessness. Makenson’s determination to level the playing field and provide equal opportunities for all students was truly inspiring. He also worked as a success coach and Senior Program Director for Youth Development at the YMCA of South Florida.

In his unwavering commitment to advocating for children’s rights, Makenson is currently working in various projects. His ultimate aspiration is to establish a worldwide NGO dedicated to rescuing vulnerable children from various forms of adversity, including homelessness, servitude (such as Restavek in Haiti), child soldiers/gangs, child labor, and various types of trafficking, encompassing sex trafficking, organ trafficking, forced labor, and slavery.
