Ivon Mesa

Ivon Mesa is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker, author, and public administrator with more than three decades of distinguished leadership in violence prevention, community advocacy, and public service. She is the author of Why Are We Not Outraged?, a powerful reflection on her lifelong commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.

Ms. Mesa currently serves as Senior Adviser to the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. Previously, she held senior leadership roles within Miami-Dade County government, including Assistant Director of the Community Action and Human Services Department and Bureau Chief of the Targeted Services Bureau, where she led critical violence-prevention initiatives with a particular focus on domestic violence and human trafficking.

A recognized innovator and national leader in anti-trafficking efforts, Ms. Mesa created the Human Trafficking Inmates Awareness Initiative in 2025 and developed the first Human Trafficking in Correctional Settings curriculum, which is now mandatory training for correctional officers in Miami-Dade County. Her work has contributed to systemic change in how correctional institutions identify, address, and respond to human trafficking.

Her leadership and impact have been widely honored, including the 2025 Torch Award, Woman Who Transforms Florida Award, Champion Against Violent Crimes Award, Hispanic Women of Distinction, Woman of Impact, and the Chick with a Cause Award, among others. Ms. Mesa is also the founder and current Chair of the Miami-Dade County Human Trafficking Coalition and a contributing author to The Handbook of Sex Trafficking.
